The beer business is one that has been growing for years. Miller Lite and Bud Light are the two most common beers on college campuses. Seeing how these two competitors compare head to head in all the social media sites was pretty cool. We compared Miller Lite and Bud Light on three different sites that analyzed the keyword you enter across multiple social networking sites. The three sites are social mention, twendz and google insights. Google insights gives you results of what people are searching on google that is related to the term you enter. When I entered ‘Miller Lite’ a lot of terms came back that I expected. Terms like Miller Lite beer, Miller beer, Miller light and miller lite commercial. Beer commercials always seem to be the most funny commercials, especially during the Super Bowl. A lot of people will then search for that commercial on youtube or just do a google search for it. When I entered Bud Light, similar terms appeared. Terms like light beer, bud light beer, bud light commercial, bud light lime and Budweiser. Not only are you given the key terms but also where the most searches are being done globally as well as nationally. Most of bud light’s searches are done in the US and Canada. As for locally, the most is in Missouri. This is obvious because Anheuser Busch brewery is located in St. Louis. The location of most searches for miller lite is also dominantly searched in the US and Canada. It is mostly searched in Wisconsin, again because it is where the brewery is located, but also a lot in Mississippi and Illinois. Something that I find really interesting is how it shows what search terms are rising and by how much of a percent. This allows people and companies to see what people are searching for the most. For miller lite, ‘miller lite vortex’ is considered breakout. When a term is considered breakout, it means that it is being searched for by thousands of people and has become extremely popular. Miller lite calories and miller lite can have risen 250% and 200% respectively. Miller lite may be introducing a new can that people are starting to talk about or people may just be searching for images of the can. Bud light has more breakout terms than Miller lite did. Bud light has four breakout terms: bud light cruise; bud light lime; bud light tailgate; and bud light wheat. I have heard of the bud light cruise before, but it was a few years ago and I did not think they were doing that promotion again, but they could be just about to announce it or just have announced it. Twends gave us interesting results. The results for Bud light were neutral with a little positive, but a lot of negative. Miller lite has some neutral and positive as well. When comparing the negatives of Bud light and Miller lite, Bud light has far more negative mentions than Miller. After looking at Google insights and the other sites, we chose Miller Lite as the company that is more prevalent in social media because of the variety of search terms that are not necessarily breakout but more relevant to the beer and company.

Privacy is something everyone is concerned with. People have always been worried about their privacy, but today it goes further than someone getting your social security number. Everything you put online can be found by almost anyone if they look long and hard enough. Facebook is one way people can find out almost anything. It is amazing what some people post to their Facebook page. It ranges from pictures of themselves drunk and passed out, to whom they just had sex with, to where they are currently located. Facebook has apps for both the Andriod and iPhone market so this information can be accessed from anywhere a phone can get internet access. Google plus has thrown their hat into the social network ring. People have praised and joined Google plus because unlike Facebook, you will remain the owner of any material you post to Google plus. Facebook claims ownership of all the photos and status’ you post.
I do not think privacy is dead. There are still things that control privacy. For example, there are still not cameras in dressing rooms to stop shoplifters. Another example is the locked outside doors of apartment complexes. The apartment my girlfriend lives in has a locked doors that require a physical key to enter and then a different key to get into her actual apartment. Online banking has become very popular because how it reduces paper and how quick people can pay their bills. I, personally, feel safe with online banking because I trust the banks I use. This protection and privacy is something that is still needed, today more than ever. As I said earlier, it is easier to get someone’s information than ever before. E-commerce has been growing rapidly over the past five years and paying by credit or debit card is about the only way to pay online. People have to be protected by the site they are purchasing from, by their credit card company or by a third-party source such as paypall.
When it comes to government regulation, I do not believe there needs to be anything changed from what is currently in place. However, one thing that would be nice to see is have the government step in to punish the person who stole an identity, a credit card number or some other personal information online. Marketers would be affected by this because they will have to be sure they promote and advertise the safety of their product of service.
In the future, I think privacy will continue to be an issue. People will become more comfortable with their personal information and it will available to anyone. I think people should keep their medical records private and off-line as well as their social security number. As far as your location, where you went to school, or your phone number, I think that information is not a big deal to share online because it is something that people can find for themselves without using the internet. People can see you at a coffee shop, people can use the yellow pages to get your phone number and I cannot think of a reason to why people would want to keep their alma matter a secret.

Google analytics is a fantastic source of information. You are able to find out the number of visits your site has had, where the views are coming from, how long the average time is on the site and on a page and also the bounce rate of your site. With this you are able to see how people got to the site whether is was from a direct search, from google, or if was from a referral site like facebook or Google+. Another feature is seeing what keywords have were used to search for the site.
I have had only 19 visits with 39 page views and a 57.9% bounce rate. The bounce rate is fairly high, ideally it should be about 20% because that means people are staying on the website and not opening it and immediately closing it. The average time spend on my site is only 17 seconds. This, I think, is largely due to bots and spammers coming onto the site, leaving their mark and leaving. I only have 8 unique visits so there were/are 8 people out there who know exactly what the title of my site is; with some of those probably being me. The visitors, except for one, are all located in Illinois. There are 16 visits in Dekalb, 1 in Naperville, and 1 in Harvard. The one that was outside Illinois was in Lexington, Kentucky.
The top pages that are visited are the main page which ends in /nmaier/ another page that is most visited is my about page (/nmaier/about/). The top page has 23 views which makes sense because it is the main landing page that everyone sees when the search for my site. The second top page makes sense also because it is the first tab at the top and it has all my information within it. Most traffic of my site is coming from direct traffic, about 84%. There is about 11% coming from referral sites and 5% coming from search engines.
The only keyword listed is bbcswebdav dt-content riddle. I have no idea what this means or where it came from, but it is the only thing listed under keywords. I am assuming that it is from a bot or spider because I do not see any human searching that on Google to get to my site. A lot of this information surprises me, like the keyword that shows up does not make sense. The amount of visits seems a little low, but I did not expect hundreds of people to visit it. I just thought it would be a little higher than 19. I am also surprised that someone or something visited from Kentucky. I again am guessing that it was a bot or spider, but it was interesting to see that there were no visits outside of the United States.

Giant Fortune Cookies
www.fancyfortunecookies.com
Buy a 1-pound fortune cookie. Save 20%
now through Thanksgiving on all cookies.
Three keywords I would include are:
Fortune Cookies
Cookies
Cookie Gifts
There is medium competition for the keyword fortune cookies. There are 246,000 global searches and 135,000 local searches for the keyword. Some keywords that look like they would work well are cookie bakery and big cookies. These keywords would work well because they have low competition, describe what fancy fortune cookies does and they also get a good amount of searches. Cookie bakery has over 70,000 searches and big cookie has over 30,000 searches globally.
If $1 was the company’s max CPC, then they would be paying about $22 per day. They would be getting about 30 clicks per day and paying $0.76 per click and have a rank of 1.82. If their max CPC was $2, they would be paying about $33 per day and getting about 35 clicks per day. They would pay approximately $0.96 per click and have a rank of 1.2 which is a little better than if their max CPC was $1, but it is still between one and two.

I find SEO to be a very, for lack of a better term, cheap way to get your website noticed by Google and other search engines. You have to be a pretty smart person, I think, to get your site a top Google’s search results without paying a dime to Google. Some of the things are simple. Like making your companies URL relevant to what people would search to find your product. It would be smart to have the word ‘coffee’ somewhere in the URL of your site if you sell coffee products. Having an accurate description of what your website entails is better than not having one because the robots that scan your website will pull the first information they find and use that for the description. I think it goes without saying that it is important to have a keyword that you think people would search in the title of your website and in the title that shows up when someone searches that keyword. The top words from my website are advertisement, plug, interactive marketing, company and picture. I’m not too surprised by these words because they all relate to this class. I have talked a lot about advertising and plug, I’m assuming, is from plug-in.
